Delivered Fresh is an online food hub connecting over 50 local farmers with hundreds of families. LFM was an ideal choice for Delivered Fresh, especially thanks to LFM’s extensive producer-level reporting options.

“The reason that we are so committed to LFM is that the farm-level reporting is way beyond anything that’s out there. And that’s for a hub that’s critical. Not only can we see reports, but so can the farmers. Producers can log in and see current sales, past sales, comparison to last year, etc. I can run reports at the producer level for pretty much anything. Right now we’re analyzing pricing for our boneless skinless chicken breasts across four different farms. Sales this year, last year, and all the prices. All that data is clicks away. For me to be able to compare multiple farms and what they sold last year and this year and look at their pricing–that is critical for for me. If you’re going to actively manage the hub, that’s critical.” -David Nowacoski, Delivered Fresh

The Alaska Food Hub emerged in 2016 as the first food hub in Alaska to provide local communities with essential access to fresh, local food and a source of education for emerging food hubs. LFM was an ideal choice for Alaska Food Hub, offering flexible packages customizable to meet the diverse needs of food hubs, farmers, markets, and CSAs. The combination of LFM features and the ability to tap into the LFM team’s extensive knowledge, relationships and experience made the choice easy for the Alaska Food Hub.

“[The LFM Team’s] hand holding was super important. It’s why we’ve been so transparent and willing to help others, as it’s something we didn’t have.”

In 2015, The Kansas City Food Hub started as a farmer-owned and run cooperative after several feasibility studies confirmed food access needs in the area. As their primary market of wholesale accounts began to grow, the Food Hub knew they needed a sales platform to manage their orders. Originally serving corporate cafeterias, schools, hospitals, restaurants, and institutional buying, the Kansas City Food Hub wanted a multi-channel sales platform that seamlessly communicated with their producers. After some research, in 2018 the Food Hub started using the LFM platform to manage and grow their wholesale accounts, while easily updating products and communicating with producers.

“We started using LFM in 2019, and it’s the only way we could’ve successfully pivoted our business [in 2020]. Without LFM we could not have managed shifting gears from wholesale to delivering CSA boxes as fast as we did. In March our orders shut down, and by April we were already selling and delivering 250 CSA boxes a week.”

More About Harvest Drop

Organization Type: Foodhub

Customers:  Previously wholesale, pivoted to retail in March 2020

Website: harvestdrop.com

Joined us in 2017.

Harvest Drop is a foodhub based in the great state of New Jersey, and it was founded by Oliver Gubenko with a passion for – not just local – but quality food. He found a gap in the local wholesale market for selling produce to NJ restaurant. Once he was able to hook up the farmers to the chefs, the rest was history…until COVID-19 hit, and his entire business model had to change. Harvest Drop pivoted almost overnight from wholesale to retail, and LFM was there to help them do it.

“It feels good when you have smart people like LFM in your corner. You guys will take a call from me on a Sunday night. It’s not just the ability to customize, it’s that level of care. I know if I’m gonna hop on the phone with Amy, she knows and understands our needs. She’s smart, she’s gonna make suggestions, and she’s always able to help me in a really genuine way. LFM helps us make the software do what we need it to do. ”

More About Three River Farmers Alliance

Organization Type: Food Hub

Joined us in 2015.

Three River Farmers Alliance is a farm collective serving the NH Seacoast region. They began in 2015 when Andre Cantelmo and Greg Balog of Heron Pond Farm realized that entering the wholesale market would require a lot of smaller farms to work together, so they formed Three River Farmers Alliance. They were early LFM users, but found a whole new use for the software during the COVID-19 shutdowns. They pivoted to a direct-to-consumer model with home delivery, using LFM, and business exploded.

“We reached out to LFM, and in two weeks, LFM created a way for us to create our routes, download our orders into a program (it’s Routific ) and then it uploads back into LFM and prints out the invoices in the right order and groups them by route.  It’s pretty cool [to get this feature] when it didn’t even exist two weeks ago! Working with a company like LFM – a company that’s willing to respond like that – I mean, that’s a lot easier than calling up somebody that just really wants you to buy some package and do it their way.”

“We went from working with 25 restaurant customers to over 100 since implementing the software over a year ago. We were able to scale to do 4x as many customers as what we had thought. I wouldn’t have had time to do the marketing side without the 18 hours we save each week with LFM.”

Customers:  Wholesale, CSA, Consumers

Website: http://corbinhill-foodproject.org/

Joined us in 2018.

Corbin Hill Food Project is a Harlem-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and social enterprise. In 2018 the organization implemented LFM to help increase their capacity for providing access to fresh, high quality, locally grown fruits and vegetables to low-income communities throughout New York City. Due to their unique business model, Corbin Hill Food Project needed a very flexible system, which they found with the LFM software platform. In addition to providing food access to individuals, Corbin Hill Food Project offers wholesale purchasing options to organizations and institutions in the NYC region seeking to improve the health of the communities they serve.

“Transitioning to the Local Food Marketplace platform has been a game-changer for Corbin Hill’s Farm Share program. It has allowed us to implement a sliding scale payment model to support lower-income Shareholders and has improved Shareholder retention. Additionally, the built-in reporting functions have made it easier to keep track of year to year data. The LFM team has been exceptional in hearing our concerns about previous iterations of the software and has implemented updates as a result of our feedback. They took a strong interest in understanding our challenges and developed solutions that work. I highly recommend LFM to anyone operating a flexible subscription-based program!”
